Biosketch:  Dr. Alan Loynachan

Alan Loynachan is a professor of veterinary pathology at the University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL).  He attended Iowa State University where he received degrees in microbiology (BS), veterinary medicine (DVM), and veterinary microbiology (PhD).  Following his PhD, he completed a residency in anatomic veterinary pathology at the University of Kentucky and became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2008.  Over the last 15 years, he has held faculty positions at Iowa State University (2007-2008) and the University of Kentucky (2009-current).  Dr. Loynachan’ s primary job responsibility is to provide timely and accurate diagnostic pathology services for necropsy, biopsy, and cytology cases submitted to the UKVDL.  Additionally, he collaborates on various equine research projects, assists with the training of veterinary and graduate students, contributes to various national and university committees, and is a co-editor for the Equine Disease Quarterly.
